WeAura Research on Malachite
The name malachite derives from the Greek Moloche meaning mallow, because the stone is the same color as mallow leaves. Malachite is a copper-based pigment that has been crushed for thousands of years. Since ancient times, it has been prized as a gemstone. Malachite was used as jewelry and was used to carve ornaments by the ancient Egyptians. As early as 4000 BC, they mined the stone between Mt Sinai and the Suez. Malachite is mentioned in Egyptian hieroglyphs as a necessary component of their gods’ life. The sun’s image was carved onto the stone to protect the bearer from evil spirits. Malachite was also carved into amulets and scarabs, and it was supposed to be a child-protecting stone. Vases and sculptures were also made of stone by the ancient Greeks and Romans. Later, Russian czars exploited it as a decorative stone, quarrying enormous reserves in the Ural Mountains to build spectacular constructions like the columns of St Isaacs Cathedral in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Malachite is a decorative stone that can be found on tabletops, bowls, vases, and carved animals. It is not commonly used as a gem because it is a soft mineral with a hardness grade of 3.5 to 4. Malachite is a beautiful green copper carbonate that ranges from light to dark green. Bands of concentric striping in contrasting colors of basic green, from pale to practically dark layers, can be seen on the stone’s polished surface, and it can display elaborate patterns. It’s popular for carving because of its beautiful hue and suppleness. Malachite polishes well but should not be worn in rings due to its softness.
Malachite has been thought to aid its user in a variety of ways throughout history. Malachite amulets were utilized by ancient Egyptians to ward off evil. The stone was once thought to be a remedy for vomiting in the Middle Ages. The stone was also thought to protect infants from evil spirits by many different cultures. According to mythology, putting malachite around a child’s neck would relieve discomfort if he or she needed dental work. Overall, malachite is thought to have the ability to purify one’s emotional body, expel bad and unpleasant emotions, and clear old traumas from this and previous lives. The stone is also said to purify the liver and gallbladder, as well as aid with delivery.
